However you stumbled upon this homepage...

WELCOME!

Wow!  Just look what spring brings to the Rockies.  Oh, I'm sure it happens other places too but I bet their moose are not as cute as ours!
And we have a new boss - Sumner is his name and we will play his game - anytime he wants!  See new pic below...

Sumner Bentley SchmidtSumner Bentley Schmidt born to the proud parents, Victoria Bentley and Brian Schmidt and most importantly, grandmother, Sherry.  So far, the finest specimen she has ever met.

We are back with some updates and changes...this is June 2010 - Can you believe it?  The ski season is over and I met some incredible visitors to Big Sky this year.  People from New Zealand, Austria, Canada and even Alabama and Georgia have visited this year and they sure seemed to have a good time.  Miss Nebraska (from last year's Pond Skim) even came back to visit and happy to mention all the broken bones have mended.  But winter has ended, at least according to the calendar and summer is upon us...

The Gallatin River is raging now...and, as usual, there are people fishing every single day!!!  Now that June is here, it is time to reserve your favorite river guide, update your tackle and equipment and get your buns in the rivers - plenty to choose from around here.

This guy is just looking for some free lunch on the verdant hills of Big Sky - picnic time!  Alexa took this picture just a few days ago.

Okay - back to business at hand...This website is to help you plan your upcoming trip to Big Sky.  You can find information for trip planning under each category on the left - and the coolest thing is that each activity (restaurant, spa, ski rental, fishing guides, etc.) have active links or phone numbers for your convenience.  This website does not represent one entity in Big Sky...it is for you to get to know Big Sky.
Our assumption is that you are planning a trip to Big Sky, Montana, Big Sky Resort, Moonlight Basin or even Yellowstone Park and you are cruising the internet for information to help you prepare for your trip.  Well, hurry up and load this site onto your mobileme, igadget or your crackberry - you're going to need it!  Big Sky, Montana - the town (or more appropriately a hamlet in the Rockies) - is loaded with great places to play, sleep, eat and relax.  And if it's a vacation you are planning, we are assuming you will be doing at least one of those things.

People tend to think of Big Sky as a couple of good ski resorts with a pretty cool, sleepy little town right next to it.  We, the Big Sky peeps, tend to think this is an outstanding little place that happens to have America's most awesome skiing attached to it....
AND A BIG THANK YOU TO AMY HENNESY OF HASTINGS, MN FOR THE KIND WORDS ABOUT OUR WEBSITE!!!

Here's your list of what's important: All About

Maybelline, Assistant ExtraordinaireNow, you are probably asking smugly, "Why do I need to load this onto my igadget/crackberry, exactly?"
Happy to answer that for you.

Well, this just happens to be where you will find the most up-to-date information about wus happnin'in Big Sky right now.  We are sure you are going to find the answers to your questions about what to do and see and just where to do and see it.
And, as opposed to the run-of-the-mill list of things available, we will give you some of the latest opinions and suggestions.

We got to looking around this wonderful town and realized that a lot of the information available to people when they get here is out of date, incomplete, somewhat misleading or limited to Big Sky Resort.  And we want to make sure you know all that you need to know about all of Big Sky, Montana to make sure that you have a great time here.  We believe in organized information and that it will make your trip easier - whether you stay 5 days or a year.  So, go ahead, load it now!  You know - igadget, crackberry or mobileme..
We would like to take this opportunity to introduce our web site manager - Maybelline, Assistant Extraordinaire.

AND, we'd like to introduce ourselves -
We are just looking for something constructive to do in our "waning" years...not to be confused with our"wining" years, which are now OR our "whining" years, which are over. Realizing that millionaire status eludes us, we endeavor to offer our experience and knowledge to the people who want to visit Big Sky and want to leave with some extraordinary memories.  We also realize that planning a short visit (anything less than 12 years) to Big Sky, Montana means you will need to know exactly what you want to do and what's available BEFORE you get here.  (Such as, did you know there is no skiing in the summer?  But rest assured, there is fishing in the winter!)  And then, when you get here, you will need to have the information handy (hence, igadget, crackberry).

Soldiers Chapel, Big SkyThere is no length of time spent here that makes this place common.  People who have been here forever still wake up to the wonder that is Big Sky, Montana.  We also tend to believe that it would take at least a year to get to know all the really cool businesses and people, try all the great dishes on all the great menus and get fit and trim under the tutelage available, but we are aware that you probably won't be vacationing for that long.  To make it infinitely easier in this day and age we will have all the links you might need and we will try to link everything we mention here so you can check it for yourself.

Getting your plans in order takes having at least a clue where you are going, how to get there and how to get around once you are there.  We believe we have created an informative AND simple website to navigate.  We will work diligently to get all the information and services a visitor may want or need to make their vacation a little more relaxing.  So, peruse at your leisure the website so far, which may still be under construction - we're old and we don't do things fast anymore - if you have questions, suggestions, or news we need to hear about please email either one of us at fran@aboutbigsky.com or sherry@aboutbigsky.com.  Sherry is the photographer, Fran just hangs out, does what she's told: an otherwise sluggish oxygen bandit with no real direction in life.

Even Big Sky can produce some autumn colors!

It's time to start planning your winter Big Sky getaway or if you are especially anal you can start planning next summer's fishing/hiking/biking vacation.
