ALWAYS KEEP IN MIND THE NUMBER 3!
If you haven't been to Big Sky before, it is important to note that there are 3 different parts to Big Sky.
And all three parts are equally important.
At the top of the mountain is The Mountain Village(where Big Sky Ski Resort is located, as well as some great restaurants, bars and shops).
At something short of mid-mountain is The Meadow Village (most retail and restaurants). The Meadow Village consists of The Meadow Village (on the golf course side of the Big Sky Spur Road), Westfork Meadows and The Town Center on the opposite side of the golf course.
And the road you took to get here from Bozeman isThe Canyon(some really good restaurants, hair salons, ranches, fishing and hardware).
All three of these parts make up Big Sky but they span about 12 - 15 miles, so be prepared when asking where something is located - the mountain? the meadow? the canyon?
Turn here to get to Mountain Village. Things you will find here: Big Sky Resort, Summit Hotel, Huntley Lodge, The Mountain Lodge, The Cabin Bar and Grill (yum), Hummer's, C&P Grocery, Lone Mountain Sports, the Mountain Mall, Arrowhead, Big Horn Condos, Lake Condos and much more.
Turn here to Town Center of Meadow Village. Here you will find such food spots as Chopper's, Wokkee Mountain Take Out, and Hungry Moose Grocery. Shopping includes The Cave Spirits, The Root (clothes for young and skinny), Big Horn Boutique (cool things for home and body), Grizzly Outfitters (all things essential to outdoors) and Hungry Moose.
Turn here to Westfork Meadow. Here you will find the River Rock Lodge, Big Sky Fire Department, Gallatin Alpine Sports (equipment rental and outdoor essentials), Bentley Bodies, Blue Moon Bakery, Allgood's, Milky's, By Word of Mouth, Lotus Pad and several other places worth checking out.
The first right hand turn after you get onto the Big Sky Spur Road This is the Meadow Village Center. The Post Office, bank, The Country Market, Lone Peak Brewery, Gallatin Gallery, Horse of a Different Color, La Luna, Willow the pharmacy and other interesting things are here.
Remember the Skyline Bus has a pretty good schedule for getting around Big Sky and if you don't have your own transportation it will be better than walking up the hill to the slopes - no matter how wonderful the weather is that day! And it is free. It is also important to note that if you are looking for ski in/ski out you will have to find that in the resorts BUT getting to the resort, whether you drive over everyday or get a ride, is really very simple. The bus is free. There is no place to stay where it is actually difficult to get to the slopes. The bus is free. Here is another one of our well-kept secrets - no traffic jams. Did I mention the bus is FREE?
